Mr. Ronnie Davies
Consultant Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon
Welcome to the clinic website. I am a local orthopaedic surgeon, born and bred in Manchester, trained in Manchester (and beyond), and work at Wythenshawe Hospital (NHS) and Highfield Hospital (private). I specialise in surgical and non-surgical treatments of the shoulder and elbow. My goal is simple: to get you back to your normal daily life, work, sport and other activities you enjoy as quickly as possible.
I have put this website together to give you some useful information about shoulder and elbow problems, as well as what to expect if you are treated by me.

Common Problems
Rotator Cuff Tears
The rotator cuff is an important set of muscles that helps your shoulder to move. The tendons that connect the muscle to the bone can wear out over time and tear off the bone. Sometimes, an injury can cause the tendon to tear. This can lead to shoulder pain and weakness which may be treated with physiotherapy, injections or surgery. Click here to find out more.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder starts off as a very painful condition. Over time, the pain slowly eases, leaving you with stiffness and loss of movement. It is common in people with diabetes. Frozen shoulder can take several years to get improve, however there are some very effective treatments such as hydrodilatation injections, physiotherapy and surgery which can speed up your recovery. Click here to find out more about frozen shoulder.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is a painful condition that affects the outer part of the elbow. It can be caused by overuse of your forearm muscles which can be related to your job (or playing tennis!) Most cases settle with some rest and physiotherapy. Some people are helped by PRP injections and surgery may also help relieve the pain. Click here to find out more about tennis elbow.
Shoulder Problems
The shoulder is an important joint that is important for all daily activities, such as getting dressed, washing your hair and reaching above your head. Some things can go wrong with your shoulder over time, including rotator cuff tendon tears and shoulder arthritis. It is also common for people to injure their shoulder, causing fractures and dislocations.

Elbow Problems
The elbow is needed for reaching out and serves as an attachment for the muscles that move the hand and wrist. It therefore plays an important role in carrying items such as shopping bags, as well as manual work.
Elbow pain can come from overuse, such as tennis elbow, arthritis or injuries.
